The cultural day out

Centred on Port Louis. Not a beach day and should not be sold as one.

  • Model ship factory — Mauritius is known for handmade scale ships; the workshop visit is genuinely interesting even to people who expect not to care.
  • Local handicraft shop
  • Fort Adelaide (the Citadel) — the overview point across Port Louis and the Champ de Mars racecourse.
  • Caudan Waterfront — around 90 shops. Good for a wander; prices are touristic. Manage expectations if the guest is shopping seriously.
  • Aapravasi Ghat — UNESCO World Heritage site, and a meaningful one for Indian guests: the immigration depot through which indentured labourers arrived. It has its own guides and interpretation on site.
  • Tea museum and a drive-through of Port Louis and the Champ de Mars.
Remember

Not available Saturday or Sunday — on SIC or on private. The sites are closed.
