West coast of Mauritius

Sunsets, value and walkability. Flic en Flac has the largest concentration of independent restaurants, shops and supermarkets outside the north, which makes it the easiest coast for a guest who does not want to be trapped in a resort. Casela Nature Parks is right here. Most of the west coast is genuinely sandy.

Sell it to

Value buyers, families, first-timers, guests who want to eat outside the hotel without booking a car, Casela-led itineraries.

Pairs with

Casela, dolphin encounters, west-coast catamaran, Rhumerie de Chamarel, sunset cruises.

Watch out

One important exception to the “west is sandy” rule — see below.

Anelia — the location / sand trade-off

Sugar Beach, Hilton and Sofitel on this coast have sandy beaches. Anelia does not — despite being beachfront, roughly 70–78% of its shoreline is rocky. But Anelia’s USP is genuine and sells well: a supermarket, shopping, restaurants and a pub are all within walking distance, and it delivers a strong four-star product with a large breakfast buffet. Present it honestly as a trade — walkability and value against sand — and it converts.

Related: a guest at a rocky-beach hotel will have a poor snorkelling experience off the property. That is exactly the moment to sell Île aux Cerfs, where the lagoon is genuinely clear.
